The 2020 Honda Accord, Pitted Against Its Contenders
Honda’s 10th generation D-segment sedan, the new Honda Accord 1.5 reflects a more commanding on the road presence by portraying a new outlook with a transformation like no other.

There are two variants offered in the new Honda Accord’s lineup, starting with the Honda Accord 1.5 TC and Honda Accord 1.5 TC-P.

Now let’s take a gander at how the new Accord 1.5 fare against its predecessor the 2016 Honda Accord 2.0 and three of its competitors the Toyota Camry 2.5, Mazda 6 Sedan 2.0 and VW Passat 2.0 TSI Elegant.
In terms of pricing, the new Accord 1.5 is priced at RM 178,203 to RM 187,390, the 2016 Honda Accord 2.0 at RM 149,351, the Toyota Camry 2.5 at RM 188,763, the Mazda 6 Sedan 2.0 at RM 168,459 and the VW Passat 2.0 TSI Elegant at RM 182,878.

Performance wise, the new 1,494 kg Accord 1.5 sports a 1.5L DOHC VTEC Turbo engine that is paired to a variable speed CVT transmission.
The mill produces 198 hp of power at 5,500 rpm and 260 Nm of torque at 1,600 rpm to 5,000 rpm. It has an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds, a top speed of 190 km/h and a fuel consumption of 15.9 km/l.

As for its predecessor, the 2016 Honda Accord 2.0 that weighs in at 1,530 kg harbors a 2.0L I-VTEC naturally aspirated engine under its hood, which is paired to a 5-speed Top Converter gearbox.
Its naturally aspirated powertrain can produce 153 hp of power at 6,500 rpm and 190 Nm of torque at 4,300 rpm. It can dash from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.9 seconds while hitting a top speed of 209 km/h and has a fuel consumption of 13.2 km/l.

Moving on to its first competitor, the Toyota Camry 2.5, weighted at 1,550 kg is fitted with a 2.5L 16-Valve, DOHC Dual VVTI ACIS engine that has a 6-speed Super ECT with Sequential Shifter transmission installed.
Said powertrain can produce 184 PS (135kW) of power at 6,000 rpm and 235 Nm of torque at 4,100 rpm, which enables the Camry to generate a top speed of 238 km/h.

Second challenger, the 1,393 kg Mazda 6 Sedan 2.0 has been fitted with a 2.0L 16-Valve, DOHC VVT engine that gets paired to a 6-speed with Manual Mode transmission.
Generating a maximum power of 162 PS at 6,000 rpm and maximum torque of 213 Nm at 4,000 rpm, the Mazda 6 Sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.5 seconds while hitting a top speed of 205 km/h. Out of all four competitors, it has the highest fuel consumption at 17.5 km/l.

Weighing in at 1,455 kg, is the VW Passat 2.0 TSI Elegant. It sports a 2.0L TSI Turbo engine that gets a 7-speed DSG gearbox paired to it.
This third and final contender can produce 190 PS (140kW) of maximum power at 4,180 rpm to 6,000 rpm and 320 Nm at 1,500 rpm to 4,180 rpm. It has 7.9 seconds of 0 to 100 km/h sprint time and a fuel consumption of 16.1 km/h.
