A Disabled Couple Killed by Suspected Drunk Driver

A remand order has been given out to a factory operator that has caused fatality of a disabled couple in Jasin, Melaka. 

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Nabihah Mohd Noor in Ayer Keroh recently. 

The crash occurred at Jalan Serkam Pantai in Merlimau which involved a vehicle and three motorcycles. 

The motorist is believed to be drunk and was on his journey from Merlimau to Melaka. 

Last Monday, Melaka Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Amran @ Mohamad Zaki Omar identified the disabled couple killed in a 7.45 am crash.

According to his statement, Ya'akob Mohamad, 57, who was riding a Yamaha Lagenda motorcycle were heading to Merlimau from Melaka, while the Perodua Myvi was travelling from Merlimau towards Melaka.

Then, the Perodua Myvi had lost control of his car and entered the opposite lane before crashing with the two motorcycles that causes Ya’akob’s car to accident. 

Ya'akob was sent to Melaka Hospital for treatment as there were minor injuries on his body along with the Myvi Driver that also covered in wounds.  

The incident has caused motorcyclist Ezuddin Mohammad who’s riding a Yamaha Ego Avantis, 50, and his wife Surayah Muhamat, 48, who was riding pillion died at the scene due serious injuries found from head to body. 

The case is under investigation under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
