Batang Kali - Genting Road Closed For 1 Year To Facilitate Slope Repair
-full.jpg)
One year, that is the duration that would be required for the slope and road repair work along the location of the landslide in Batang Kali, Selangor to be completed before the public is allowed to access the route. The incident which happened last Friday at the Jalan Batang Kali-Genting, Hulu Selangor saw 24 lives lost and several still unaccounted for.
Public Works Ministry (KKR) Secretary General, Datuk Wan Ahmad Uzir Wan Sulaiman has advised the public to use other alternative routes suggested by the Public Works Department (JKR) in the meantime as reported by Berita Harian.

He further commented that even though the Jalan Batang Kali-Genting stretch might seem fine, he department would only allow the public to access the route once a new slope has been constructed.
Wan Ahmad Uzir went on to add that the cause of the incident was not from road construction or illegal irrigation from the campsite but due to natural flow of underground water which is not visible to the naked eye.
Following the incident, KKR has identified 1,045 slopes along all Federal roads in the peninsula which are at high risk of collapsing. For these areas, Wan Ahmad said no development would be allowed. This is in accordance with the guidelines approved through the National Council Meeting for Local Government.
