Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi, chief operating officer of PLUS, stated that PLUS aims to reduce the number of traffic fatalities involving all types of vehicles on the highways it operates by 7% in 2023 through the use of data, collaboration, and enforcement by the police and Road Transport Department (JPJ).
He claimed that this was in keeping with the goal of the Malaysian Road Safety Plan, which is to cut traffic fatalities by 50% by 2030.
The JPJ and the police will also be given access to the data and statistics, particularly in the endeavour to lower the rates of accidents involving large vehicles, motorbikes, emergency lanes, and accidents brought on by debris or obstructions on roadways.
As a result, he added , "we will concentrate on safety issues involving motorcyclists, who are the main contributors to the figures."
According to statistics, there were fewer accidents on PLUS-operated motorways this year than there were in 2019.
However, he claims that accidents involving large vehicles climbed by 2% this year compared to 2019, while accidents involving stalled vehicles in emergency lanes increased by 5%.
