Rebooted SsangYong Brand Previews New Torres EVX SUV Model
Set to be rebranded as KG Mobility soon, rebooted Korean automaker SsangYong has taken to the web this week to preview its upcoming new Torres EVX model. The electric SUV offering is set to officially debut at the end of this month during the 2023 Seoul Mobility Show, and it will reportedly be accompanied with a bevy of new concepts and other new production models alongside it.

Previously dubbed as the ‘U100 Project’, the Torres EVX name is a combination of the EV (electric vehicle) and X (extreme) letters, which aptly conveys what it aspires to be. Unlike its similarly-named and combustion-powered counterpart, the Torres EVX sports a different look thanks to its redesigned front fascia which, according to SsangYong, represents an evolution of its ‘Powered by Toughness’ design ethos.
Notable here is its adoption of a slim LED DRL bar with six illuminated dots – a feature that will see widespread adoption in the brand’s upcoming range of zero-emission models. Below that comes a uniquely designed bumper that features headlights housed low in the side inlets, plus a discreet skid plate present up front too.

Down the side, this electrified Torres EVX looks identical to its combustion-powered twin, with the EVX’s striking new alloy wheels design being the key difference. No images or view of the rear were shown, but SsangYong did hint the presence of a full-width LED bar plus the signature tailgate ‘bump’ meant to resemble a spare wheel cover.

On board, the cabin has been revamped to feature a novel dual-screen digital cockpit layout. Whilst the steering wheel is carried over from the combustion-powered model, whereas the wood-style inserts in the dash are new. SsangYong says that the new dash promises “improved overall visibility” plus heightened ergonomics too.
The absence of SsangYong branding in the exterior isn’t surprising given the brand’s plans to rename itself as KG Mobility. However, this change will likely be announced at a later date. For now, the Torres EVX retains the SsangYong badge, albeit on its steering wheel only.
Sources online indicate that it could share the same underpinnings with the smaller Korando e-Motion model, the latter featuring a single 190 HP electric motor juiced by a 61.5 kWh battery and offering up to 340 KM of WLTP range. What’s also uncertain here is if the Torres EVX will harness a similar or upgraded setup, and whether it will remain as a front-wheel-drive (FWD) proposition.
Beyond this, no technical details surrounding the Torres EVX were released, though these are expected once the car officially premiers at the end of this month.

Crucially, the Torres EVX will be one of 16 vehicles and EV platforms that SsangYong will reportedly showcase at their stand in Seoul. Also set for debut here are the KR10, O100, and F100 concepts – most likely SUVs – plus updated versions of current SsangYong production models.
Finally, SsangYong is also poised to present its “vision as a mobility company”, meaning there could be other types of vehicles to debut here too. Expect more details from the rebooted Korean automaker once the 2023 Seoul Mobility Show gets underway from March 30 to April 9.
