This Perodua Nexis Render Shows What Perodua D66B *MIGHT* Look Like

The Perodua D66B is a B-segment SUV model that is reportedly being developed by the national carmaker that will sit above the Perodua Ativa in its current lineup. We’ve heard rumours and conjectures that suggest this Perodua B-SUV will be based on the DNGA-based Toyota Yaris Cross which were developed specifically for the ASEAN regional market.

Luckily, we won’t have to rely that much on our imagination, as renowned Malaysian automotive render artist Chin Swee Hoe, or better known as Theophilus Chin/Theottle has unveiled rendered Perodua D66B SUV based on the Yaris Cross, cordially known as the Perodua Nexis.

Just like how the Perodua Ativa is the rebadged version of the Daihatsu Rocky/Toyota Raize, the same can be said about what the rendered Perodua Nexis is to the Toyota Yaris Cross. While both models shared many similarities and traits visually, Theottle has managed to snuck in several of Perodua’s latest design cues to make the Nexis looked a bit apart from the model it is based on.

Starting from the front, the Nexis sports the similar sharp headlights design as the Yaris Cross, while sporting a different set of front bumper and front grille. Aside from the Perodua emblem, the Nexis also comes with vertical LED DRL strips that look like it came straight from the facelifted third-gen Perodua Myvi.

The Nexis’s side profile, on the other hand, looks exactly the same as the Yaris Cross, with the exception being the wheels it (virtually) rides on.

While Theottle applies a slew of Perodua touches on the front part, the man himself apparently gives the rear part of the Perodua Nexis some Lexus-esque look, notably the sharp LED taillights bar that runs across the SUV’s tailgate. Elsewhere the Nexis gets black-hued rear bumper skid plate and low bumper garnish, while the Yaris Cross gets the former finished in silver instead.

Developed to cater to the growing demand for sporty subcompact SUVs in the regional market, the Toyota Yaris Cross underpins the same DNGA platform used in the Toyota Raize/Daihatsu Rocky/Perodua Ativa triplets, albeit this being marketed as the ‘true’ B-segment SUV in Indonesia. 

For the Indonesian market, the standard Yaris Cross is powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cyl nat-asp 2NR-VE engine – the same engine used in many Toyota models including the new Vios (AC100). Rated at 105 HP and 138 NM, this engine is mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or a CVT that drives its front wheels (FWD).

There’s also a hybrid variant of the Yaris Cross that harnesses a 1.5-litre 4-cyl nat-asp petrol hybrid mill rated at 90 HP and 121 NM, which is mated to a hybrid electric motor that is rated at 79 HP and 141 NM. Said electric motor is juiced by a tiny lithium-ion battery pack.

With Perodua’s lineup currently lacking a ‘true’ B-SUV contender, it is only fair for us to think that the Yaris Cross-based Perodua Nexis/D66B would make a great addition to the marque’s fleet. Currently, Perodua’s only SUV offerings are the three-row Perodua Aruz, as well as the DNGA-based Perodua Ativa, with the latter priced from RM62,500 onwards.
