Malaysia will celebrate its 66th anniversary of independence in a grand scale on August 31, 2023, and, unlike previous years, there will be a statewide celebration on Merdeka Day eve called "Sambutan Ambang Merdeka 2023," followed by the official National Day Parade on Merdeka Day.

Rapid KL will be extending its operating hours to relieve congestion and make travel more convenient for all who would be attending the celebration. The "Sambutan Ambang Merdeka" for KL would be hosted in the landmark Dataran Merdeka from 8pm to 12am.

As a result, a few LRT, MRT, and KL Monorail stations will remain open until 2am on August 31. Masjid Jamek on the LRT Ampang/Sri Petaling Line; Pasar Seni, Masjid Jamek, KLCC, and Ampang Park on the LRT Kelana Jaya Line; Pasar Seni and Bukit Bintang on the MRT Kajang Line; Ampang Park and Persiaran KLCC on the MRT Putrajaya Line; and Bukit Bintang Monorail station.

Furthermore, all LRT, MRT, and KL Monorail stations will begin operations at 4am on August 31 to accommodate those heading to Putrajaya for this year's National Day celebration.

Rapid KL urges everyone to utilise Touch n Go as their preferred way of payment on this day and to have enough balance to avoid any hiccups.
