Government Drawing Up P-Hailing Guidelines For Road Safety - Loke

According to Anthony Loke, p-hailing operational guidelines are being developed to ensure the safety of riders and other road users.
The Transport Minister stated that the P-hailing Land Public Transport (Licencing and Supervision) Regulations would have to be followed by all industry stakeholders.
"The government will ensure that appropriate rules are set that ensure the operational safety of p-hailing for both riders and other road users," he said in a parliamentary written reply dated Oct. 26.
It was in response to a question from Shaharizukirnain Abd Kadir (PN-Setiu) about the current state of cooperation between the government and p-hailing operators in addressing safety issues posed by reckless delivery riders.
According to Shaharizukirnain, this is because almost 70% of P-hailing users ride dangerously, particularly during rush hours.
In order to guarantee that insurance initiatives are still offered to riders and third parties, Loke said that the ministry was currently keeping an eye on all p-hailing service providers.
"The ministry will continue to ensure riders' safety as part of amendments to various Acts earlier this year which stipulate that self-employed individuals fall under the Self-Employment Social Security Act 2017.
"Under this Act, p-hailing riders are required to contribute to the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme under Socso," he said.

On June 16, Parliament passed amendments to the Land Public Transport Act 2010, the Road Transport Act 1987, and the Commercial Vehicles Licencing Board Act 1987 to regulate ride-hailing services in the nation and came into force on Oct 15.
