The Dongfeng Nammi 01, a compact pure electric vehicle, has commenced pre-sale at the Auto Guangzhou 2023. Priced between RMB 79,800 and RMB 109,800 yuan (RM 51,400 – RM 71,000), this small electric car is set to target the market for compact EVs, with an ambitious sales target of 400,000 units annually by 2025.

With measurements of 4030 mm in length, 1810 mm in width, 1570 mm in height, and a 2660 mm wheelbase, the Nammi 01 is the first model built on the Dongfeng S3 platform. Its rounded design, which complements the aesthetic of small electric vehicles, is characterised by triangle headlights, round taillights, hidden door handles, and frameless front doors.

Charging convenience is emphasised with the charging interface situated on the right front fender and would feature a level-2 advanced driver assistance features. Its design would feature a five-spoke alloy that, depending on the model, would come in 16 or 17-inch.

The cockpit would feature minimum physical buttons, while featuring a full LCD instrument panel and a floating infotainment screen. Notably, the glove box adopts a drawer-like pull-out mechanism. With a generous maximum trunk volume of 945L, the Nammi 01 does offer practical storage space.

This budget-friendly EV would come exclusively only in a front-wheel-drive configuration with two CLTC range options: 330km (31.45kWh battery) and 430km (42.3kWh battery), both utilising lithium iron phosphate battery packs.

In terms of performance, the electric motor delivers 70kW (94HP) with a top speed of 140km/h. The Nammi 01 is built on a 400V fast charging architecture, enabling a 200 km range with just 8-minutes of DC charging.

In October, CariCarz disclosed that the Malaysian Malay Vehicle Importers and Traders Association (PEKEMA) had entered into an agreement with Dongfeng Motor Corporation (DFMC). This memorandum of understanding raises the possibility of the Nammi 01 being imported into Malaysia or potentially being assembled locally (CKD) to cater to the right-hand-drive market. However with the governments no EV under the RM100,000 range policy till 2025 any plans for a budget friendly EV would have to be shelved for the time being.
