Stellantis RM2 Billion Investment - STLA Medium Platform For ASEAN

With a focus on spearheading the electrification transition, Stellantis has disclosed its strategic intentions for improving mobility solutions in the ASEAN region. Unveiled globally in June 2023, the STLA Medium platform is a crucial component of this approach. Modern Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) technology is embodied in the STLA Medium platform, which boasts an impressive 700 km range, great energy economy, embedded power, and charging capabilities.
Stellantis would be investing more than RM2 billion to introduce the STLA Medium platform to the ASEAN region as part of its commitment to long-term sustainability and the bold Dare Forward 2030 plan. Stellantis will be able to create a range of multi-energy vehicles specifically for the ASEAN market, such as BEVs, ICE vehicles, and mild hybrid electric vehicles (MHEVs), thanks to this platform. Within the next four years, this effort will generate over RM5 billion in potential local sourcing possibilities for manufacturers and suppliers.

With this investment, Stellantis hopes to stimulate the development of a regional electrification ecosystem while spearheading the shift towards electrification in the ASEAN markets. This ecosystem would result in new job possibilities and the local assembly of battery packs, which would ultimately boost local businesses and have a favourable economic impact.
"Stellantis' expansion plans in ASEAN align with our global commitment to achieve a net-zero carbon output by 2038, reducing our environmental impact and promoting sustainability," said Daniel Gonzalez, Chief Operating Officer for ASEAN & General Distributors at Stellantis. In order to produce electric vehicles in ASEAN, engineers must design and build vehicles that are specifically suited to the needs of regional consumers."

As part of its "Built in ASEAN for ASEAN" strategy, Stellantis established its India and Asia Pacific Regional Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur in 2021 and fully owned the Gurun facility in Kedah. Stellantis is looking into the possibility of turning the Gurun facility into a regional centre for the production of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) for the ASEAN export and domestic markets.
By 2030, Stellantis hopes to have more than 75 BEVs available and sales of 5 million BEVs worldwide annually.
