AC And DC EV Chargers At Major Chery Malaysia Outlets Soon

Chery Malaysia vice president Lee Wen Hsiang presenting at the firm's business press conference held earlier this week.
At Chery Malaysia’s business press conference held yesterday, CariCarz.com took the opportunity to enquire about the firm’s preparations to launch its first all electric offering, the Omoda E5. Central to our enquiries were charging facilities to accommodate said upcoming EV crossover SUV.
Chery Malaysia’s vice president Lee Wen Hsiang was more than keen to shed some light regarding the matter. “Presently, we’ve already begun discussions with key players from both the charging point operators (CPOs) space, as well as OEM suppliers for this,” said the exec.

The upcoming Chery Omoda E5 EV crossover SUV is slated to launch itself in March. Ahead of which, Chery Malaysia will see its dealership network prepare for its arrival with EV charging points present.

Lee notes that major Chery outlets, namely 3S and 4S centres, will house DC charging points. As a refresher, the Omoda E5 accepts AC charging up to 9.9 kW and DC fast-charging input up to 80 kW.
Ahead of the Omoda E5’s arrival at Chery outlets, Lee adds that customers can expect to see charging facilities being present for which. He adds that both regular AC and rapid DC charging points are being planned, but the availability of the latter will depend on certain factors.
“We are planning to have DC fast chargers available at major Chery outlets, namely 3S and 4S centres. However, this will greatly depend on several factors, key amongst which being the investment of our dealer-partners,” explained Lee.
While he declined to get into specifics surrounding the hardware type and targeted charging speed of these DC chargers, Lee reassures that upcoming Omoda E5 customers will have little to worry about when it comes to charging the Omoda E5 through its dealership network that's also set to grow this year.
Through which, he also confirmed that regular AC charging points will be available at most.

Presently, prices and launch packages for the Omoda E5 haven't been disclosed yet, but Chery Malaysia seems to have things in motion for the latter, specifically regarding home wallbox chargers.
Furthermore, Lee notes that discussions are underway with OEM suppliers to fulfil incoming demands for home wallboxes by prospecting Omoda E5 buyers. “We’re looking at all options right now and will determine the best possible package to offer customers,” he adds.
As a refresher, Chery Malaysia confirmed plans to officially launch he Omoda E5 by March this year. Prices, as well as sale packages, remain undisclosed for now. Given what was shared with us thought, Chery Malaysia are in the midst of securing all necessary means for the latter.

Packing a 61 kWh LFP battery and single-motor setup, the Omoda E5 promises up to 430 KM of driving range on a single charge.
Previewed to local press back in Nov, the Omoda E5 is set to harness a 61 kWh LFP battery pack that juices a front-mounted e-motor rated at 201 HP and 340 NM. This setup promises a maximum travel range of 430 KM. Said battery accepts AC charging inputs up to 9.9 kW, and DC fast-charging inputs up to 80 kW.
According to Chery Malaysia, the latter charging method promises quick re-charges from 30-80% in just 30 minutes. Apart from which, the Omoda E5’s EV architecture also boasts built-in V2L (vehicle-to-load) ability capable of discharging up to 3.3 kW.
As noted, this all-electric twin to Chery Malaysia’s best-selling Omoda 5 crossover SUV is set to launch in March. After which, Chery Malaysia’s product expansion for 2024 will also include two regular combustion (ICE) models – the Tiggo 7 Pro and an unnamed model with “high-volume” sales ambitions.
