New BYD Yuan UP Enters Dealerships In China, Priced From RMB100,000

It appears that pre-sales for the new BYD Yuan UP have begun in its home market of China. The model slots below the Atto 3 (Yuan Plus) and shares the same powertrains as the Dolphin.
Having initially leaked online back in Dec 2023, the new BYD Yuan UP compact EV SUV has been somewhat revealed officially in its home market of China.
The model has begun reaching dealership floors in said republic, where it commands a relatively affordable RMB100,000 (approx. RM66,079) starting price tag.
As a refresher, the new BYD Yuan UP slots below the Atto 3 (marketed as the Yuan Plus in China), and it’s a slight smaller-sized offering.

In terms of styling, the Yuan UP appears a little more rugged over the Atto 3. It does feature plenty of familiar design elements commonly seen in other BYD models too - Atto 3 and Dolphin, in particular.
Despite being more petite, the Yuan UP boasts a more rugged design aesthetic, making it a closer rival to things like the Jeep Avenger. This perhaps signals the BYD brand’s attempt at wooing a younger crowd with the Yuan UP.
Official specs indicate that the Yuan UP measures 4,310 MM long with a 2,620 MM wheelbase, 1,830 MM wide, and 1,675 MM tall. This sees the Yuan UP share a similar footprint as the Perodua Ativa, which sits 4,065 MM 2ith a 2,525 MM wheelbase, 1,710 MM wide, and 1,635 MM tall.
On top of the rugged design, the Yuan UP boasts plenty of touches common of most BYD models, namely the adoption of full LED headlights, along with LED DRLs neatly placed within the lower bumper, and distinct LED taillight bar running across the entire tailgate.

Two powertrain choices and two battery capacities are available, with BYD touting between 301 KM and 401 KM of range too.
According to China-based sources, the Yuan UP comes in two guises, one packing a 94 HP e-motor and another with a peppier 174 HP e-motor – similar to the BYD Dolphin EV hatch. Battery capacities also differ at 32 kWh and 54.1 kWh respectively – presumably both being BYD’s ‘Blade’ design packs.
As for range, the same China-based sources report the model being able to cover between 301 KM and 401 KM, presumably on the CLTC test cycles.

On board, the Yuan UP features similar styling and amenities as found in the Dolphin and Atto 3 with fully digital displays, perforated leatherette upholstery, the presence of a wireless charger, and more.
On board, the BYD Yuan UP sees its cabin styled and furnished in similar fashion as things like the Atto 3 and Dolphin. Key touches include both an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel and a 12.8-inch rotatable central infotainment touchscreen, followed by a digital heads-up display (HUD).
Other key features include perforated leatherette upholstery, power adjustable front seats, the presence of a wireless charging pad, and a rather posh crystal gear selector. One noteworthy luxury added here is glass sunroof.

The new BYD Yuan UP is widely tipped to see sales in overseas markets later. Should this pan out, then it might just prove to be as popular as the Atto 3.
With the arrival of the model’s first initial batches at dealerships, it’s a sign that BYD has begun pre-sale activities ahead of a previously reported targeted launch window of March. After which, BYD is widely tipped to consider overseas sales for the Yuan UP.
Should the latter pan out accordingly, we can likely expect the Yuan UP to go on sale in the same overseas markets as other models like the Atto 3, Dolphin, and Seal. Given the relative successes of the former duo though, we reckon BYD might have yet another popular product on hand.
