Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer Revealed – An EV Estate With Up To 685 KM Range

The VW ID.7 Tourer bows as a long-roofed estate (or wagon) offshoot of the sleek ID.7 four-door fastback.
Volkswagen’s all-electric ID models range grew with the debut of the new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer earlier today. Essentially, this is the long-roofed estate (or wagon, if you prefer) offshoot of the ID7 fastback the German automaker launched sometime back.
Aptly, this long-roof bodystyle brings near-unrivalled levels of practicality led by its massive and cavernous boot that measures up to a maximum of 1,714 litres with its rear bench folded. Even with them up, there’s still a huge 605 litres available – 73 litres more than the saloon.

With the rear seats folded, the ID.7 Tourers offers a massive 1,714 litres of cargo space. Even with said seats up, there's still a cavernous 605 litres available - 73 litres more than the saloon.
Apart from that, the ID.7 Tourer shares identical dimensions as its four-door fastback twin – 4,961 MM long with a 2,971 MM wheelbase, 1,862 MM wide, and 1,536 MM tall. As for wheel sizes, these ranges anywhere between 19- to 21-inch, depending on variant of course.
The ID.7 Tourer also inherits its saloon twin’s panoramic sunroof primed with a trick a polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) layer. More commonly found in higher-end sportscars, this enables owners to make the roof transparent or opaque at the touch of a button.

Aesthetically, the ID.7 doesn't appear to different from its four-door twin.

Apart from the long roof and rear hatch, little has changed from the ID.7 Saloon.
Underneath, the ID.7 Tourer also mirrors its four-door saloon twin in terms of battery and powertrain options. The former comes in the form of a rear-mounted e-motor that outputs up to 282 HP and 545 NM to drive this estate’s rear wheels.
At launch, the ID.7 Tourer Pro guise employs a respectably sizable 77 kWh battery, but the Pro S variant slotted above which ups the ante with a bigger 86 kWh pack instead. The latter sees VW touting claimed WLTP maximum range of up to 685 KM.
And whilst the smaller battery mentioned sees its DC fast-charging input limited to just 175 kW, the larger unit can draw up to 200 kW instead. The latter boasts the ability to recharge from 10-80% in under 30 minutes.

Depending on variant, VW touts a maximum claimed WLTP range of up to 685 KM and ability to accept up to 200 kW DC fast-charging.
On board, the ID.7 Tourer’s cabin again doesn’t stray too far off from the ID.7 saloon in terms of appearance and tech. Leading the bill here is a 15-inch tablet touchscreen infotainment floating in the dash’s centre that boasts integrated ChatGPT AI tech, as well as a heads-up display.
Said infotainment’s new AI-powered abilities were previewed during CES 2024 earlier this year. It promises improved IDA voice assistant feature with the ability to operate more car features and perform online researches.
As for the HUD, it now boasts the ability to display navigation instructions from either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto – both connectivity being built into the infotainment mentioned. Other than what we’ve detailed, this estate doesn’t differ much from its saloon twin.

On board, the ID.7 Tourer's cabin again mirrors its saloon twin here. Note the PDLC-equipped glass sunroof - a feature more common in higher end performance specials.
Production of the ID.7 tourer will commence at VW’s Emden factory – the same facility where the regular ID.7 is produced, as well as the ID.4. Sadly, VW doesn’t have plans to offer this electrified estate beyond the European market just yet.
Well, what do you folks reckon? Are you digging this long-roofed twin of the sleek ID.7? Should VW offer this in other markets like ours? As always, hit the comments below – and our social media pages – with your take on things…
