EKVE Completion Postponed To End Of 2025
After a prolonged delay, the works ministry now projects that the East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) will be finished by December 31, 2025. It was originally scheduled to be completed in 2019, but has been delayed several times due to a variety of issues, including civil suits and rising costs.
Putrajaya and the concessionaire for the highway signed a fifth supplementary concession agreement on November 11 of last year, according to Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi.
Legal disputes had stalled the highway, including five civil suits pertaining to a parcel of land in Beverly Heights, Ulu Kelang.
According to Nanta, as of January 25, 85.74% of the EKVE project had been completed. Work on the site has resumed, with a focus on completing the first section of the highway (Sungai Long-Ampang), which is expected to open in the third quarter of this year.
“Meanwhile, work on construction of Section 2 of the highway (Ampang-Ukay Perdana) is expected to resume in the second quarter of this year,” Nanta said in a written parliamentary reply.
The 24km EKVE dual carriageway connecting Sungai Long and Ukay Perdana was expected to cost approximately RM1.55 billion.
