Government Considering Monthly Cash Transfers For Targeted Subsidies Rollout
Financial aid to eligible individuals may be disbursed by the government through monthly cash transfers, according to NST.
Monthly cash transfers are one of the suggested methods of implementation that the government is currently discussing, according to Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli. He stated that if the monthly cash transfer method is used, it will be the first time it is done.
“This approach has never been offered to the people before. Previously, eligible recipients of such programmes received aid once every three or four months. What is being considered right now is through monthly cash transfer model, like an additional sum to the monthly salary and there will be a range (of amount),” he said during the PADU town hall held at MBSA Convention Centre in Shah Alam on Saturday.
Rafizi made this statement in response to a query from a participant regarding the expiration date of any cash assistance provided through e-wallets.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had stated the previous year that the government was thinking of using cash transfers to subsidize the rakyat. He claimed that doing this would guarantee accurate delivery of the subsidy and help prevent leakage.
