McDonald's becomes Malaysia's first fast food business to join the drive towards electrification in collaboration with EV Connection (EVC) – JomCharge. However, this is not entirely new in the global picture as McDonald's France has committed to construct 2,000 electric vehicle charging bays (EVCB) by 2025.

Furthermore, global coffee giant Starbucks is actively expanding its EV charging network in Malaysia by housing DCFC stations at its drive-thru sites, ideally within 150 KM of one another.

JomCharge has installed its DCFC stations at two McDonald's locations: Setia Alam and Pantai Sentral Park. According to our contact in JomCharge, these two stations are merely the tip of the iceberg in terms of what is coming this year.

McDonald's Pantai Sentral Park, located on Jalan Pantai Sentral in Bukit Kerinchi, will house a single cabinet 100 kW Kempower Dynamic Charging DCFC equipped with two CCS nozzles.

If both nozzles are in use simultaneously, this DCFC would be able to regulate the output based on the vehicle's state of charge (SOC) to deliver optimum charging rate.

Meanwhile, at the McDonald's Setia Alam outlet along Jalan Setia Utama, JomCharge has installed two (2) 45 kW ABB Terra DC Chargers feeding two EVCB. This facility would also have sufficient roofing for the comfort of its users.

The charging rate at both locations is set at RM1/kWh for the time being. This however is a promotional rate but thus far no end date has been specified. Furthermore, these two McDonald's DCFC stations are still not available on JomCharge's roaming partner applications – Gentari Go and ChargEV.
