G60 BMW 5 Series & MINI Countryman EV Teased for MAS 2024

It seems like BMW Group Malaysia has got something big in store for its biggest exhibition yet at the upcoming Malaysia Autoshow 2024 (MAS 2024), taking place at MAEPS, Serdang, later this month. As indicated by the Instagram story posted by the company, we might be seeing several new models making their Malaysian debuts at the motor show.

The G60-gen BMW 5 Series was the first model teased in said video posted by BMW Malaysia.
In said 50-second-long video, a total of 10 vehicles were teased, featuring a glimpse of their silhouettes. From the bunch, two models have caught our attention, with the first one being the G60-gen BMW 5 Series – the ICE twin of the new BMW i5 EV saloon, which already made its local debut in the eDrive40 M Sport guise last year.

G60 BMW 530e plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version.
For the ICE version, the G60 5 Series arrives in both mild-hybrid (MHEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) guises. Although we can’t be sure which variants will make their way into our market, the previous-gen 5 Series was offered in both 530i full-ICE and 530e PHEV versions, so we can expect the new model to follow suit.

Given that both the previous-gen 5 Series were locally-assembled (CKD) at BMW Group Malaysia’s plant at Inokom Kulim, Kedah, there’s a high chance that the new G60 5 Series would also be made in Kedah, which also explains why it takes BMW Group Malaysia some time to launch the ICE versions after the fully-electric i5.

The new MINI Country was the next model that caught our eyes in said video teaser.
The second one is the new, third-gen MINI Countryman, which made its global debut late last year. Available in both full ICE and EV forms, so your guess is as good as ours when it comes to which version we’ll get to see at the upcoming motor show. Our money, however, is on the all-electric version, since the Countryman EV was first shown to the world ahead of its ICE twin.

Besides cars, several two-wheelers were also teased in said video, including the BMW CE 02 e-scooter.
As for the rest of the models, we can spot both the current-gen BMW X1 and X2 in said video, as well as several two-wheeled BMW Motorrad models, with the most notable one being the BMW CE 02 EV bike.

Debuted globally in July 2023, the CE 02 stood as a smaller and more urban-oriented sibling of the CE 04 e-scooter. Touted as the eParkourer, the CE 02 harnesses a single electric motor rated at 15 HP that is juiced by a small 3.92-kWh battery pack. This EV setup grants the 132 KG-weight CE 02 a maximum EV range of only 90 KM (WMTC) and a top speed of 95 KM/H.
