Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 EV Truck Successfully Chargers At 1 MW Input Speed

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has successfully tested its high-power Megawatt Charging Standard (MCS) charging system with a prototype eActros 600 electric truck recently. This new charging system, which can charge at a high rate of one megawatt (1,000 kW), allows the truck to charge much faster, saving downtime and enabling greater operating ranges.
According to Rainer Müller-Finkeldei, Head of Product Engineering at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, "The incorporation of the MCS Standard into the electric truck was a significant accomplishment which will enable customers requiring vehicles to go longer distances with fewer stops to reap greater profit."

Meanwhile, Peter Ziegler, Head of E-Charging Components, underlined the importance of reaching the megawatt charging capacity milestone as it promises faster charging times and better ranges - critical for the practical use of electric trucks as a long-distance transporter.
Currently, Mercedes-Benz Trucks is working on finalising the technology for mass production, with intentions to begin rolling-out the eActros 600 by the end of 2024. The truck in its standard form will be able to accept charging inputs of up to 400 kW, and customers can opt to add on the MCS technology at any point later.

The eActros 600 has a large battery capacity of nearly 600-kWh, allowing it a range of 500 KM on a single charge. This capacity allows the vehicle to go over 1,000 KM per day by recharging during regular breaks, even without the requirement for megawatt charging.

According to Mercedes-Benz Trucks, customers in Europe travel less than 500 KM per day, which is manageable with current charging facilities at depots and loading points. However, for longer journeys, increasing the public charging network, particularly with megawatt charging stations, is critical for these trucks to travel further.
