Proton Sees April 2024 Sales Up 17.1%, Saga And X50 Continues Leading

National carmaker Proton posted healthy sales growth in April on both the local and overseas export fronts. A total of 11,025 units were shifted last month, marking a 17.1% year-to-date increase.
National carmaker Proton revealed earlier today that its sales for April 2024 experienced a 17.1% year-to-date increase, leading to a total of 11,025 units shifted in said month – both locally and export. In contrast, this marks a healthy growth over the 9,415 units shifted in the same month last year.
Altogether, Proton indicates that it has shifted a total of 50,175 units in the first four months of this year. In turn, this also sees Proton retaining its No. 2 position in terms of total market share, of which it currently holds an estimated 18.7% for last month.
Notable to this increase too is a surge in overseas exports, which jumped by 38.5% with 835 units shifted last month. In contrast, Proton exported a total of 603 units in the same timeframe last year, and the latest figure marks healthy growth indeed.

Key models driving Proton's April 2024 sales growth include its popular X50 compact crossover, new S70 C-segment sedan, and its eternal best-seller the Saga.
Predictably, the carmaker’s highly popular X50 compact crossover SUV leads the charge on both the national and export sales front in April, which saw a total of 1,642 units shifted. Proton also noted its new S70 C-segment sedan’s sales momentum growing strongly – 1,635 units were shifted in April.
Naturally, April’s sales figures for both Geely-based models pale in comparison to Proton’s staple volume-seller, by which we mean the Saga. Said affordable entry-level sedan saw 5,031 units shifted last month alone, marking an 8.8% year-to-date growth.

Apart from local sales, the Saga also contributed to the export surge noted earlier. Of the 835 units shifted overseas, 427 units stemmed from said affordable four-door sedan offering. Compared to last year, this marks a sizeable 16% year-to-date increase too.
““Export sales remains a vital pillar to Proton’s long-term goals. This year, we have added Trinidad and Tobago to our export portfolio and reestablished our foothold in Bangladesh. Proton is confident of the market rebounding in the short to medium term as there is still a lot of demand from car buyers,” notes Proton’s Deputy CEO Roslan Abdullah.
