Launched: 2024 Suzuki Jimny 5-Door – RM199,950

The 2024 Suzuki Jimny 5-Door was officially launched by distributors Naza Eastern Motors earlier today.
Hinted for launch earlier this year, the new 2024 Suzuki Jimny 5-Door has officially made landfall in Malaysia through distributors Naza Eastern Motors Sdn Bhd who launched the model earlier today at the Sentul Depot, Kuala Lumpur.
Revealed globally back in Jan 2033, the extra rear doors sees total length stretched to 3,822 MM and wheelbase extended to 2,590 MM, marking 342 MM and 340 MM extensions respectively. Apart from that, the Jimny 5-Door’s 1,645 MM width and 1,720 MM height with 210 MM ground clearance remains unchanged from the 3-Door version.

Unlike the 3-Door version, this new 5-Door offshoot sits 342 MM longer with a 340 MM stretched wheelbase too.

Despite its longer size and unchanged 15-inch rolling stock, the Jimny 5-Door's off-roading clearances are marginally lower compared to the 3-Door version.
Also unchanged here is the powertrain, and it sees the newly launched 5-Door model harnessing the same 1.5-litre 4-cyl naturally aspirated petrol mill as the 3-Door variant, which outputs 100 HP and 130 NM. Said mill also continues to be paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission plus a full-blown 4x4 driveline offering 2H, 4H and 4L diff-lock modes.
Despite the altered and now longer footprint, the Jimny 5-Door’s clearance angles are minimally affected compared to its 3-Door twin. In fact, its approach, departure and ramp break-over angles are only slightly reduced at 36-, 47- and 24-degrees respectively. For reference, the 3-Door version boasted figures of 37-, 49- and 24-degrees respectively.

The 5-Door version shares the same 1.5-litre 4-cyl petrol and 4-speed automatic powertrain package seen in the 3-Door version. The latter comes with a full-blown 4x4 driveline offering 2H, 4H and 4L diff-lock modes.

The cabin's front half remains identical to the 3-Door version, but it now sports a larger new infotainment touchscreen and up to six airbags primed.
On board, the cabin of the Jimny 5-Door sees its front half mirror its 3-Door twin, but the rear half is where the real difference lie as it now boasts proper space for a second row of seats for two occupants. Also increased here is boot space, which now measures 211 litres – nearly double that of the base 3-Door version’s 85-litre space.
Additionally, what also sets this 5-Door iteration apart from its 3-Door twin are the level of equipment primed, especially on the safety front. Regarding the latter, the 5-Door model sees its cabin lined with six airbags instead of just two as seen in the 3-Door version.

The stretched body and wheelbase plus extra doors sees proper space for second-row seating for two occupants plus an enlarged boot capacity.
Up front, the 5-Door model also sports a new 9-inch infotainment touchscreen – 2-inches larger than the 3-Door’s. Said unit offers both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, as well as reverse camera display function.
Apart from these changes, it appears little else has changed in this longer and extra-doored version of the renowned no-frills compact 4x4 off-road SUV. The only other change to note lies in price and, aptly, the added doors and length does see an increase here too.

Full specifications of the new Jimny 5-Door.

Up to five paintjob options are available including two premium two-tone choices.
Available across six paintjob options including two premium two-tone choices, the 2024 Suzuki Jimny 5-Door is priced from RM199,950 sans insurance. For reference, Naza Eastern Motors retails the Jimny 3-Door from RM158,900 instead, thus marking a sizeable RM41,050 difference.
Nevertheless, given its cult-like fandom and following, the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door is poised to bait swathes of avid off-road enthusiasts with the means as how its smaller 3-Door sibling does. What do you folks reckon then? Share your thoughts in the comments below, and our social media pages…
