Volt Establishing ASEAN’s Largest EV Fast-Charging Hub - 80 Charging Points

While Malaysian EV users eagerly await the completion of the EV Charging Hub through a collaboration between Yinson Greentech (YGT) and PLUS Malaysia Berhad - the chargEV hyperpower DC fast charging stations - Singapore's Volt has announced plans to establish an EV fast-charging hub in the city state.

Volt Singapore is a joint venture between Keppel Infrastructure and Wanbang Digital Energy, a large Chinese EV charging point supplier and operator.

This hub, designed to accommodate both commercial and passenger vehicles, will be capable of hosting up to 80 charging ports for buses, taxis, private automobiles, and other EVs. In turn, this will turn this facility into the largest public EV fast-charging centre in one area within the Southeast Asia (ASEAN) region.

This announcement comes after ComfortDelGro awarded Volt a contract to deploy and run this hub for up to 15 years. ComfortDelGro also owns SBS Transit, the city-state's largest public bus operator, and a taxi fleet.

The hub will be situated in Western Singapore, and it is slated to begin its first operational phase in the first half of 2026. It will feature charging points with 360 kW and 120 kW ratings, enabling some electric cars to charge in as little as 10 minutes, according to Volt. For perspective, Malaysia’s CPO DC Handal currently runs Asia’s highest output liquid-cooled EV charger with a 400 kW output rating.

This is consistent with Singapore's overall goal of eliminating internal combustion engine automobiles by 2040. According to government figures, EVs accounted for about one-third of new car registrations from Jan to May this year, which nearly doubles the 18.1% rate from 2023.

Tandemly, the number of EV chargers in Singapore is expected to increase to 60,000 by 2030, from the current total of over 7,100 charging outlets, 3,661 of which are public.
