Malaysia's Vehicle Sales Will Remain Strong In Coming Months - HLIB

Malaysia's new vehicle sales are expected to remain strong in the coming months due to Perodua's continued high order backlogs and more aggressive sales campaigns, particularly by the various original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
According to Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd (HLIB), the ringgit's recent strengthening is encouraging for the industry and could help offset the environment of higher operating costs in the second half of 2024 (2H24).
"We have also noticed more aggressive new launches by new Chinese OEMs with attractive pricings, which will provide stiff competition to incumbent OEMs," it said in a note.

Due to persistently high backlogs and new releases from select OEMs, the Malaysian Automotive Association reported another excellent month of total industry volume (TIV) in July 2024, with 71,700 units sold.
