Updated 2025 BYD Seal EV Saloon Debuts in China

BYD has unveiled the 2025 update for its Seal EV saloon, featuring an upgraded 800-volt platform & LiDAR.
BYD has launched the updated version of the Seal EV saloon in China. For its 2025 model year (2025 MY) update, the Seal EV saloon now underpins an updated 800-volt platform, a LiDAR sensor, plus many more equipment upgrades over the previous version.

On the design front, the 2025 Seal doesn’t look that different from its predecessor, as the updated EV saloon features no significant design changes, hence why we called it an update instead of a facelift. However, one can immediately notice that the new Seal now comes with a LiDAR sensor on the front part of its roof, fitted on a BYD sedan for the first time.
Thanks to this new LiDAR, the updated BYD Seal can now support a slew of new ADAS functions, such as Navigation on Autopilot and Automated Valet Parking, on top of the existing Level 2+ DiPilot 300 ADAS suite.

The 2025 BYD Seal now comes with a more minimalistic interior, featuring a new Orange-hued colourway option.
Much of the changes for the new 2025 BYD Seal happen inside and beneath the car as the cabin gets a minor overhaul. Now featuring a more minimalistic design, the front dash now comes with hidden A/C vents plus a new four-spoke steering wheel, while the door cards are smoother and cleaner than before.

As we mentioned prior, the updated BYD Seal now underpins the updated version of BYD’s proprietary e-Platform 3.0 Evo 800-volt EV architecture, featuring a Cell-to-Battery (CTB) battery integration technology. The biggest benefit gained from this new platform is faster charging times, with the new Seal can now be charged from 10-80% in just 25 minutes, although no exact DCFC figures were shared by the automaker for now.
Two battery options are now offered for the 2025 BYD Seal, with the baseline 61.44-kWh unit providing a maximum CLTC range of 510 KM and the bigger 80.64-kWh unit granting a longer CLTC range of 650 KM.

Powertrain options, on the other hand, come in three forms, with the baseline single-motor RWD unit rated at 228 HP (170 kW), the mid-spec RWD model capped at 308 HP (230 kW), and the top-spec dual-motor AWD setup capable of delivering 523 HP (390 kW). The latter setup allows the Seal EV saloon to blast from 0-100 KM/H in just 3.8 seconds, en route to its V-Max of 240 KM/H.
Rounding off the mechanical upgrades for the 2025 BYD Seal is the updated suspension setup, with the new EV saloon now getting BYD’s proprietary Disus-C trick suspension system, promising better handling without compromising too much on comfort.

Besides the new Seal EV (left), BYD also unveiled the new BYD Seal 07 PHEV (right) in China.
Now on sale in China, the updated 2025 BYD Seal EV saloon starts at CNY 175,800 (RM108,678) for the baseline 510 Standard Edition variant, while the range-topping 600 Four-Wheel Drive Intelligent Driving Edition commands a higher price tag of CNY 239,800 (RM148,243).
As of writing, local BYD vanguard Sime Darby Motors (SDM) has yet to iterate any plans to introduce the newly-updated BYD Seal, as the firm recently launched the 2024 MY version of the BYD Atto 3 EV SUV earlier this year. Given that the new Seal just made its homeland debut today, it may take a while before we see this new Seal roaming (or swimming) down our streets…
