Betamek, Perodua Showcase Virtual Telematics Solutions

The auto telematics system, which was jointly developed by Perodua and auto parts manufacturer Betamek Bhd, was unveiled at the Daihatsu Motor Co Ltd (DMC) show in Osaka, Japan, The Star has reported.
In addition to on-board vehicle diagnostics, Betamek demonstrated the telematics system, which gathers information from a car, including GPS position and operation data like driving speed. showcased over-the-air (OTA) software updates earlier on Tuesday at the show, allowing cars to get the newest improvements without having to visit a service center in person.

“From remote vehicle management to real-time tracking, these innovations enhance safety, convenience, and performance. The ability to receive updates wirelessly through OTA technology ensures vehicles remain at the cutting edge without any hassle,” said Betamek executive director Muhammad Fauzi Abd Ghani in a statement.
Although OTA updates are not an uncommon feature, they would definitely put Perodua on par with other well-known brands for a company that is primarily known for creating affordable cars. Real-time tracking and geo-fencing capabilities, accident alerts, an emergency E-Call system, and remote vehicle control via a smartphone application are some of the innovative features included in Betamek's telematics system.
As the automotive industry continues its transition to electrification, Betamek's telematics system, which was created at a time when Perodua is aiming to produce its first domestic EV, also supports smart charging management for EVs, allowing users to schedule charging, locate charging stations, and monitor charging status.

Perodua intends to launch its first BEV by the end of 2025, with a price point of less than RM 100,000. "MITI will assist Perodua in accomplishing its objective," said Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry.
