Selangor Aims To House 1,000 EV Charger by 2025
![]()
Selangor aims to have 1,000 electric vehicle (EV) chargers available by 2025, according to State Investment, Trade, and Mobility Committee Chairman Ng Sze Han.
"We are already nearing the target," he stated in response to a query from Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari (IND-Selat Klang) regarding the state’s plans to encourage the installation of EV chargers. Ng further added that the state government supports EV charger installations and has received numerous inquiries from charging point operator (CPO) interested in setting them up (who doesn't love a Zero Capex investment).

He also urged any other parties interested to contact the local authorities in Selangor to identify suitable locations, including council-operated parking lots, to facilitate the installations.
However, we at Carz.com.my feel these claims does raise some questions. The Malaysian Electric Vehicle Network (MEVNet) dashboard already reports 1,072 EV charging points spread across 353 locations in Selangor.

This figure suggests the state has already surpassed its 1,000-unit target why Ng mentioned the state is targeting towards. So, whose data is accurate—the Chairman's or MEVNet’s?
This discrepancy highlights a recurring issue in Malaysia's EV ecosystem: inconsistent data dissemination by government officials.

To avoid confusion and build public confidence, it is imperative that all government representatives cross-check and align their statements with the official dashboards or data sources accessible to the public.
Any data presented must be verified and reflect the real situation on the ground—not merely serve as a smokescreen to placate stakeholders.
