Selangor Rail Line Will Be Implemented In 10-Year Phases - Exco

The Kita Selangor Rail project, spanning 200 kilometers, is set to revolutionize connectivity within the state of Selangor. With an estimated completion timeline of ten years, this rail network aims to seamlessly link the northern and southern regions of Selangor, facilitating efficient travel between key areas such as Sabak Bernam, Shah Alam, Klang, Sepang, and Labu (Negeri Sembilan), according to State Executive Councillor for investment, trade, and transportation, Ng Sze Han.
In a move to further amplify the project's impact and reach, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, during the tabling of the 2025 Selangor State Budget on 15 November 2024, unveiled plans for a strategic expansion of the Kita Selangor Rail Line. This expansion envisions the rail line extending its reach into Negeri Sembilan, with spur lines connecting key locations like Westport and Klang.
“To date, studies have identified a 200km main alignment, with four proposed spur lines connecting to Westport, Klang, Putra Heights, and Universiti Selangor in Bestari Jaya.

“The rail system is designed to support speeds of up to 160km/h, significantly reducing travel times between key destinations.
“For example, a journey from Sabak Bernam to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) via the (Kita) Selangor Rail is projected to take approximately one hour and 42 minutes, compared to the current two hours and 41 minutes by road,” Ng told the Selangor State Legislative assembly in response to a question from Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran about the details of the project.
Ng added that the rail network will improve Selangor's connectivity by connecting major transportation and logistics hubs, including Port Klang, KLIA, and Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang. The rail network is also expected to complement the Klang Valley's existing public transportation systems: the MRT, LRT, KTM Komuter, and KLIA Ekspres. The Selangor state government, led by Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, initially proposed the Jajaran Kita Selangor rail network on July 31, 2023. The announcement was made during the launch of the Tawaran Kita Selangor initiative by the Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional coalition.
