Volvo Set to Launch 5 Models in 2025, EX60 Coming in 2026

Among the 5 new metals set to be launched by Volvo this year is the ES90 EV sedan, followed by the EX60 in 2026.
2024 has been a great year for Volvo, as the Swedish automaker achieved its “highest full-year retail sales, revenues, and core operating profit in its 98-year history,” with a new annual sales record of 763,389 units worldwide. To go along with this good news, Volvo has also laid out its new product roadmap, where at least five new models will be making their debut in 2025 alone.

Calling all five of them ‘new’ might be a bit of a stretch, as according to Volvo Cars president and CEO Jim Rowan, the five aforementioned models will be a mix of new and refreshed ones, covering a wide range of body types from SUVs to sedans and even wagons.
“The depth and the variety of our balanced product portfolio is one of our greatest assets. We will expand the lineup of fully electric, plug-in hybrid, and mild-hybrid cars and continue to offer world-class products in all segments: SUVs, sedans, wagons, in terms of size: 30, 40, 60, 90. And we’ll do this in over 80 countries around the world,” Rowan said during the live conference of Volvo’s 2024 full-year report presentation.

The first of the five to debut is the rugged version of its new small EV crossover, the EX30 Cross Country, followed by its first-ever EV saloon, the ES90. Rowan described the upcoming ES90 as “one of the flagship models” for the brand, where it promises to demonstrate all the greatest “technology capabilities” available under Volvo’s arsenal. Once it debuts later in March 2025, the upcoming ES90 will join Volvo’s current flagship EV SUV, the EX90.

As for the remaining three models, Volvo has confirmed one of them will be a new “long-range plug-in hybrid” that will be dedicated to the Chinese market, followed by two updated versions of its current models. Given that the ageing XC90 recently got a second facelift treatment, we can expect the same to be done to other smaller PHEV models like the XC60 SUV.

Besides the five new and refreshed models for 2025, Volvo has also made it official that the EX60 will be making its landfall later in 2026 alongside four other new models. Rowan described the new EX60 as a “game-changer,” where the upcoming midsize EV SUV will underpin the new SPA3 platform, which is an upgraded version of the SPA2 architecture used on the EX90. Joining the EX60 later in 2026 are two other SPA3-based models, although no indications were given on their bodystyles or forms.

Moving forward, Volvo remains cautious and pessimistic about its future, and that is despite its record-breaking performance in 2024. In a message to the shareholders, the CEO said:
“2025 will be a year of transition. The global car industry is facing several uncertainties: cyclical, structural, transformational, and geopolitical. We have navigated this environment better and faster than many of our peers, but we and the rest of the industry will be severely tested this year. At the same time, we must keep our eyes firmly on the road ahead and not sacrifice the future on the altar of the present. In other words, we must be prudent, diligent, and disciplined during a turbulent 2025 while paving the way for our long-term ambitions.”
