MG Teases Upcoming MGS5 EV Crossover

MG released two teaser images for it upcoming MGS5 EV model.
Sino-British marque MG looks set to reveal a brand new offering called the MGS5 EV is just several weeks time, and it has released two teaser images ahead of which. Said new model is poised to replace the ageing MG ZS EV as well.
According to reports online, the MGS5 EV will underpin the SAIC-owned brand’s modular scalable platform (MSP) base that's shared with the MG4 EV hatch model – a nameplate that’s been raking in rave reviews and equally raving sales in key markets for the brand (namely the UK).

MG ES5 launched by parent SAIC Motor in its home market of China late last year. The MGS5 EV teased is the overseas export version of which.
If things look familiar, you’re not wrong. This is effectively the overseas export version of the MG ES5 launched by parent SAIC Motor in China last Oct. In terms of size, the MGS5 EV will reportedly sit some 4,480 MM long, making its significantly longer (162 MM) than the outgoing MG ZS EV mentioned.
MG didn’t reveal much details other the images featured, which firstly shows the car plugged in and charging, whilst another shows off its distinct and large transverse LED taillight bar that also wraps around the rear quarter panels and includes an integrated illuminated MG badge.
MG also elected to keep mum over specs. For reference though, the MG4 is marketed in Europe with a single front e-motor setup outputting 168 HP or 201 HP, as well as a range-topping dual-motor guise pushing out 429 HP. Expect similar options offered n the new MGS5 EV teased.

Chinese market MG ES5 cabin pictured. Its MGS5 EV offshoot for overseas export promises to deliver a more posh and premium cabin than the MG4 hatch that it shares the same MSP base with.
Aptly, as noted in our own test-drive review of which, the MG4’s only real weakness is its less than stellar interior quality. The MGS5 EV will reportedly not repeat this, instead promising a more posh and ‘premium’ cabin instead whilst retaining the MG brand’s bargain price.
We’ll have more details once the MGS5 EV officially debuts which, as the brand promised, will take place in the coming weeks.
