Launched: 2025 Volvo EX90 & XC90 Facelift – From RM418,888

Volvo Car Malaysia has debuted its ‘90’ flagship SUV duo today, the all-new Volvo EX90 EV and the facelifted XC90.
Following its preview and bookings commencement last month, Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) has finally debuted its new '90' flagship SUV duo today: the all-new Volvo EX90 and Volvo XC90 facelift. Today’s launch also makes Malaysia the first market in the world to launch both ‘90’ flagship SUVs simultaneously, with prices starting from RM442,888 for the EX90 and RM418,888 for the updated XC90.

2025 Volvo EX90 EV SUV
Starting with the EX90, this EV SUV is essentially the all-electric twin to the combustion-powered XC90. As detailed prior, the flagship EX90 is decked with all the bells and whistles available in the Swedish marque’s arsenal while featuring a new design language that will be followed by other future Volvo EVs—EX30 included.

Key design highlights include the new grill-less front face featuring Volvo’s new Thor’s Hammer LED headlights, C-shaped LED taillights with extended LED strips on the D-pillars, a conventional SUV bodystyle, 21-inch alloy wheels, and even a LiDAR unit. Four exterior colour options will be available for the EX90, namely Onyx Black, Crystal White, Vapour Grey, and Sand Dune.

Available in a sole three-row seven-seater configuration, the EX90 gets a pretty decked-out cabin setup, with key amenities including a 14.5-inch infotainment screen powered by Google OS, a small digital instrument cluster with an HUD, ventilated and powered front seats wrapped in Nordico man-made upholstery, open-pore Birch Wood veneer trims, a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, plus two interior colourway options—Charcoal and Cardomom.

Malaysians will only be getting one powertrain variant for the EX90, namely the Ultra Twin. Featuring a dual-motor AWD setup rated at 510 HP (380 kW) and 910 NM that is good for a 4.9-second century sprint finish and 180 KM/H of V-max. Juice is provided by a sizable 111-kWh NMC battery pack that grants it up to 623 KM of EV range.
Thanks to its 800-volt architecture courtesy of Volvo’s proprietary SPA2 platform, the EX90 can support up to 250 kW of DC charging, allowing its large battery unit to go from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes.

2025 Volvo XC90 Facelift
Now for the XC90, the second facelift treatment sees this ageing behemoth looking more similar to its all-electric twin. Key design changes include new Thor’s hammer LED headlights, a new front grille with diagonal-patterned inserts, a redesigned front bumper with vertical fog lamps and a wider lower air intake, as well as new lighting signatures for its L-shaped LED taillights.

More changes take place inside the new XC90, as the cabin is now laced with several new trims and a host of equipment upgrades, including a new 11.2-inch portrait-oriented infotainment screen powered by Google's built-in OS, a new central console design, and a Bowers & Wilkins HiFi audio system.

For our market, the facelifted XC90 comes in both Ultra B5 mild hybrid (MHEV) and Ultra T8 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants, with the former featuring the same 2.0-litre 4-cyl supercharged petrol mild hybrid setup rated at 296 HP. Meanwhile, the Ultra T8 PHEV model uses the same 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbopetrol PHEV setup rated at 306 HP and a 143 HP-rated e-motor.
While performance figures remain the same for the T8, the improvement comes on the efficiency front, as Volvo claims the new T8 PHEV variant gets a longer EV-only range of 77 KM (WLTP) and an impressive fuel consumption rate of only 1.8 litres per 100 KM.

As a recap, the fully-imported (CBU) Volvo EX90 Ultra Twin is tagged at RM442,888, while the locally-assembled (CKD) XC90 starts from RM418,888 for the Ultra B5 MHEV variant and RM434,888 for the top-spec Ultra T8 PHEV. All the prices are inclusive of VCM’s standard 5-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty and a separate 8-year warranty for the high-voltage battery system.

Not to forget, both of the 90 flagship SUVs also come with five years of 24-hour roadside assistance with complimentary towing to the nearest authorised service centres, plus five years of complimentary Google services and data connectivity. On top of that, the first 50 customers who booked the EX90 are entitled to a complimentary wallbox charger voucher worth RM5,000, as well as a free panoramic roof sunshade.
