New Chery QQ Concept Unveiled Ahead of Auto Shanghai Debut

Chery is bringing back the QQ hatchback series, with the first concept set to debut at the upcoming Auto Shanghai 2025.
Chinese automaker Chery is reviving its QQ hatchback series in China, as it releases the first few images of the new Chery QQ concept car. Set to be revealed later at the upcoming Auto Shanghai 2025 motor show, this futuristic hatchback will preview a series of next-gen QQ city cars, which were previously discontinued back in 2014 due to poor reception.

Just like its predecessors, the new Chery QQ concept retains the same compact hatch bodystyle, albeit featuring some modern design features. Key design highlights include a new grill-less front face with geometric LED headlights, a sleek side profile with hidden door handles and digital side-view cameras, partially enclosed wheels with cross-shaped spoke design, a slew of QQ emblems scattered around the exterior, and many more.
Besides the published images, there’s not much to derive on the new QQ concept for now, but we understand that this new hatchback will boast an all-electric powertrain setup. Again, no detailed numbers or figures were shared for now, but we can expect them to be on par with other small Chinese EV hatches such as the Geely Geome Xingyuan, Dongfeng Nammi Box, and many more.

Chery QQ3 city car
Originally debuted back in 2003, Chery positioned the QQ series as “young people’s first car,” with the first model rolling off the production line being the QQ3, which retailed from only CNY 29,900 (RM18,266) back then. At its peak, Chery managed to sell over 40,000 units of the QQ series model annually, with monthly sales exceeding 10,000 units in 2005 and cumulative sales exceeding 1.4 million units.

Since the QQ series’ demise more than a decade ago, urban EVs are getting more and more popular, which has probably prompted Chery to revive its beloved city car series. And as we mentioned earlier, the new QQ concept will be making its inaugural public debut at the upcoming Shanghai Motor Show later this month, so expect to learn more things about this cutesy urban EV as we get closer to its debut date.
