Official: GWM Tank 500 HEV Launches On May 8 At MAS 2025

GWM Malaysia confirmed via press release today that it will officially launch the GWM Tank 500 HEV at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 (MAS 2025) next week.
if you haven’t gotten your tickets to this year’s edition of the Malaysia Autoshow (MAS 2025) organised by the Malaysia Automotive Robotics & loT Institute (MARii), here’s one reason to cop your tickets now.
Earlier today, GWM Malaysia confirmed via press release that it will officially launch the new GWM Tank 500 HEV model at the show. More specifically, the official launch takes place during the show’s Press Day next week on May 8.
After which, the Tank 500 HEV will be showcased publicly throughout MAS 2025 at the GWM Malaysia booth. The show opens to the public from May 9 to May 15 at MAEPS, Serdang, and tickets can be purchased online at autoshow.my.

Prior to this, GWM Malaysia had already previewed the Tank 500 HEV during KLIMS 2024 held last Dec.
First previewed locally back in Dec 2024 during KLIMS 2024, the GWM Tank 500 HEV will be the second offering under the TANK luxury SUVs sub-brand. It will slot above the existing Tank 300 model that the firm launched last year too.
Positioned as a full-sized, luxury 4x4 SUV, the Tank 500 HEV sits 5,078 MM long with its tailgate-mounted spare tyre included, 1,934 MM wide, and 1,905 MM tall. It also boasts a 2,850 MM wheelbase, hence its offer of three rows of seats on board.
As for visual styling, GWM Malaysia will offer the Tank 500 HEV solely in top-flight Ultra trimline, which equips the SUV with 20-inch rolling stock that are each shod in 265/50-profile tyres. Other notable bits include full-LED lighting plus retractable side steps.

The Tank 500 HEV will employ a 2.0-litre turbo 4-cyl petrol hybrid powerplant that outputs 346 PS. It will also come paired with a 4WD driveline.
Mechanically, the Tank 500 HEV employs a hybrid powertrain that firstly consists of a 2.0-litre -4-cyl turbo petrol base engine. Said mill is ugmented by an e-motor and compact battery system. As a result, this hybrid package boasts a total output of 346 PS and 658 NM.
Paired with the mill is both a 9-speed automatic transmission and a switchable four-wheel-drive (4WD) driveline. Like the smaller Tank 300 mentioned, the latter features both a front and rear e-diff plus a mechanical centre locker tying both.
Additonally, the latter 4WD setup sees the Tank 500 HEV boasts multiple diff lock modes, up to 11 terrain modes, as well as the ability to perform the tight ‘Tank Turn’ maneuver. There’s even an off-road-specific cruise control function here.

On board, the Tank 500 HEV's cabin will come brimmed with tonnes of luxuries and tech on top of abundance space for seven seats.
On board, the GWM Tank 500 HEV sees its cabin richly upholstered in quilted Nappa leather with faux wood trims and accents primed. Displays consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation plus a massive 14.6-inch central infotainmernt touchscreen.
Said infotainment is paired with a 12-speaker Inifnity audio suite and offers both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other highlights primed include a wireless charging pad, power-folding third row seats, tri-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, and more.
Again, just like the Tank 300, the GWM Tank 500 HEV will also come laced with a barrage of Active Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features that enables a high-degree of semi-autonomous driving. This comes on top of basics like six airbags.

The GWM Tank 500 HEV is currently opened for bookings at dealerships with a tentative price of RM350,000.
For now, GWM Malaysia hasn’t disclosed an official price, electing to announce which during the model’s launch during Press Day at MAS 2025. However, bookings have opened through dealers with a tentative price of RM350,000.
We’ll have more details, including after-sales coverage, once the model launches officially next week. Until then, what do you reckon folks? Fancy this Chinese alternative to things like the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Everest? Hit the comments below…
