The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) strengthened its road safety commitments by launching two new safety assessment programs and signing three strategic agreements with industry and training providers during the recent Automechanika Kuala Lumpur 2025 expo.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Haji Hasbi bin Haji Habibollah officiated the event and praised the collaboration between MIROS, CyberSecurity Malaysia, the automotive sector, and academia. He highlighted the role of technology and progressive policies in improving road safety.

Firstly, MIROS introduced TrackScore, a voluntary rating system that evaluates the performance and specifications of tracking systems, especially in commercial vehicles. It supports driver behavior monitoring and enforcement by agencies like JPJ, APAD, and LPKP.

TrackScore will also form the foundation for a future In-Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS) that offers more comprehensive oversight.

Secondly, MIROS also launched the Micromobility Rating Program (MIRA) - a voluntary safety evaluation for vehicles like e-scooters. Based on ASEAN NCAP and MyMAP approaches, MIRA helps users and local authorities make informed decisions on safe micromobility adoption.

To support its safety goals, MIROS also inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Alpha International Training & Consultancy to run a Certified Sleep Recovery & Management Programme. This tackles fatigue and microsleep among drivers, reducing accident risks tied to human factors.

A second Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with MyLorry Technology Solutions to use digital tools and AI to improve commercial transport safety. The partnership will also create data-driven education and training content.

Additionally, a third MoU inked with the Automotive Accessories Traders Association of Malaysia (AAA) aims to improve regulation and safety standards for vehicle accessories, helping reduce risks to consumers.

These initiatives reinforce MIROS’ role as a regional road safety leader and as the ASEAN Road Safety Centre. MIROS remains committed to working with all sectors to drive safer, sustainable, and inclusive mobility.
