2026 Geely EX5 Gets 610 KM Range - Will Proton e.MAS 7 Be Next?
-full_normal.jpg)
The updated 2026 Geely EX5 EV SUV just launched in China, retaining its original starting price of RMB109,800 (RM65,000) despite receiving several notable upgrades.
The most significant improvement lies in driving range. The previous entry-level 49.5 kWh battery, which yields 400 KM of real-world range (345KM WLTP), has been discontinued. Geely has replaced it with a new 68.4 kWh Aegis LFP battery offering up to 610 KM of CLTC range (500 KM WLTP). Meanwhile, the existing 60.2 kWh option, capable of 530 KM (410 KM WLTP), is retained.

Performance figures remain unchanged. The EX5 features a single front-mounted e-motor producing 215 HP. It also does 0-100 KM/H sprints in 6.9 secs before hitting a v-max of 180 KM/H. Charging from 30% to 80% takes just 20 minutes via 100 kW DC fast-charging capability. AC charging remains at 11 kW.
According to CarNewsChina, Geely has also improved the SUV’s ride quality. The suspension has been updated with damping performance enhanced by 20%. Two new exterior colours have also been added: Dawn Blue and Evening Forest Green.

Despite these upgrades, the price range remains between RMB109,800 to RMB145,800 (RM65,000–RM86,300). The EX5 continues to undercut the BYD Atto 3, which starts from RMB115,800 (RM68,500) in China.
Originally introduced as the Galaxy E5 in 2024, the EX5 has since become Geely’s best-selling EV SUV for the export market. It is now available in 35 countries, with domestic sales in China reaching 130,715 units and global sales topping 150,000.
In Malaysia and several other right-hand drive markets, the EX5 is badged as the Proton e.MAS 7 instead. Launched back in Dec 2024, two variants are available - Prime with a 49.5 kWh battery pack and a Premium with a larger 60.2 kWh pack. Prices read at RM109,800 and RM123,800 respectively.

Both are currently being offered with a RM4,000 rebate offered to the first 6,000 units. This instead brings prices down to RM105,800 (Prime) and RM119,800 (Premium).
With the updated EX5 now officially launched in China, and Proton being a co-engineering partner in the development of both the EX5 and the e.MAS 7, it’s likely that a similar update could come for the latter Proton twin.
Whether the e.MAS 7 will receive the improved batteries, suspension upgrades, or other enhancements remains to be seen. But with Malaysian buyers generally favouring higher driving range options when available, an update to match the Chinese offering later this year or in early 2026 seems entirely possible.
