Gangster Repo Agent Will Face Stern Action – KPDN

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is taking stern action against rogue vehicle repossession agents following a viral incident on the North-South Expressway near Pedas-Linggi.
“The agents involved have been identified with help from the police and are facing enforcement action, including permit revocation for breaching ethical guidelines.” the ministry says in a Harian Metro report.
KPDN reminded that all 3,869 licensed repossession agents under the MyEPS system must follow strict rules under the Hire-Purchase Act 1967, which prohibits threats, force, or intimidation.
Agents are also required to show identification, avoid entering premises without consent or a court order, give owners time to retrieve belongings, document the condition of the vehicle, and file a police report within 24 hours of repossession.
According to KPDN, from January 2022 to June 25, 2025, it carried out 762 inspections, recorded four enforcement cases, and received 27 complaints. Despite low numbers, the ministry is stepping up checks and public education to raise awareness of consumer rights.
“Reports can be lodged via WhatsApp (019-848 8000), the e-aduan portal (eaduan.kpdn.gov.my), hotline (1-800-886-800), or the Ez ADU KPDN app
“failure to comply with the law may lead to permit cancellation and prosecution,” it says.
