MG Motor Malaysia (SAIC Motor Malaysia) have expanded the MG Cyberster line-up locally with a newly added 'base' RWD variant.

MG Motor Malaysia (SAIC Motor Malaysia) announced today via press release that it has expanded the MG Cyberster range locally. Joining alongside the existing all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant now is a new ‘base’ rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant.

Aptly, this is the more ‘accessible’ and arguably more ‘practical’ single-motor version of the Cyberster. Peak outputs read at 340 PS and 475 NM, which in turn enables 0-100 KM/H dashes in a respectably rapid 5 secs.

For reference, the twin-motor AWD guise launched prior boast combined outputs of 544 PS and 725 NM, which in turn brings a much quicker century sprint time of just 3.2 secs.

Unchanged here is the 77 kWh battery pack, as are both its 7 kW AC and 150 kW DC charging speeds. The latter brings 10-80% re-charging time of just 38 minutes as well - the same as the higher-end AWD variant.

With the exterior, the RWD flavour of this EV roadster appears identical as its higher-end AWD twin. The only exception are the smaller 19-inch wheels this guise rolls on versus thew 20-inch units in the AWD guise.

Instead, where this new base RWD guise shines best is range, whereby it offers a WLTP-rated max figure of 508 KM. Again, for contrast, the twin-motor AWD guise only has a claimed WLTP-rated maximum range of 446 KM.

Typical of performance EVs as such, the extended range comes by trading-off power and speed. Thankfully, the added range in this new base RWD guise does not come at the expense of style which, aptly, remains largely unchanged.

In fact, the Cyberster RWD continues to rock a classic two-door roadster silhouette boasting key and distinct touches through bits like its all-LED forward and rear lighting plus its signature powered ‘scissor-doors’.

The only real visual difference to note with the exterior is this RWD variant’s preference for 19-inch rolling stock instead of 20-inch units brimmed in the AWD guise slotted above it.

On board, there are no changes to report as the RWD guise mirrors the AWD variant on this front.

That aside, on board luxuries, convenience and tech brimmed in this new Cyberster RWD guise mirrors the higher-end AWD guise mentioned.

Highlights include combination leather and Alcantara upholstery, power-adjustable sports seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, wraparound display suite powered by a trio of 10.25-inch displays, 8-speaker Bose audio suite, and more.

Shared with the higher-end AWD variant too are the barrage of ADAS features that grant this variant of the MG marque’s highly-charged roadster with an equally high-degree of semi-autonomous driving abilities.

MG Cyberster AWD pictured above from its official launch during KLIMS 2024 priced at RM319,900. The new RWD variant detailed costs RM20,000 less.

As for  price and, predictably, the new MG Cyberster RWD gets a more ‘accessible’ RM299,900 price tag (excluding insurance and on-road costs) – RM20,000 less than the AWD variant.

Lastly, this new RWD guise also gets the same 7-year or 150,000 KM base vehicle warranty, 8-year or 180,000 KM EV battery warranty, and 8-year or 160,000 KM drive motor and motor control unit warranty.

Moreover, purchases of this new RWD guise detailed also benefit with a complimentary 7 kW wallbox charger plus 1-year unlimited charging access through JomCharge with Auto Charge Function.
