Jaecoo E5 Debuts in the UK – J5 All-Electric Twin, Malaysia Next?

UK deliveries for the all-new Jaecoo E5 EV SUV will begin later in Oct this year. Malaysia next?
Jaecoo has confirmed UK deliveries for its new, all-electric subcompact SUV, the Jaecoo E5, which will begin this Oct. According to Autocar UK, this EV SUV retails from £27,505 (RM156,782), making it the first all-electric product from the Chinese automaker to be launched in the UK.

Also known as the J5 EV, the Jaecoo E5 is essentially the battery electric (BEV) version of the Jaecoo J5, which is touted as the marque’s B-segment SUV crossover. The UK-spec Jaecoo E5 packs a 61.1-kWh LFP-type battery pack that grants it up to 400 km of EV range, according to the WLTC standards.
Charging-wise, the Jaecoo E5 supports DCFC at up to 80 kW, allowing the LFP pack to be charged from 30% to 80% in about 27 minutes. And just like any other modern BEV, the E5 supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, meaning its battery can be used to power external devices. As for the powertrain, the Jaecoo E5 adopts a single, front-mounted (FWD) electric motor setup rated at 204 hp and 287 Nm, enabling it to complete a century sprint time in 7.7 seconds.

In terms of design, the Jaecoo E5 adopts the same boxy SUV bodystyle as its petrol-powered twin, featuring design bits inspired by a certain former British Leyland SUV marque. Being a BEV, the E5 does get some minor design tweaks over the J5, including a grill-less front face that Jaecoo claims to improve the car’s aerodynamic performance, 18-inch alloy wheels with a more enclosed spoke design, and many more.
Dimension-wise, the E5 spans 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, 1,650 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,620 mm, putting it on par with other electric B-SUVs like the BYD Atto 2, Kia EV3, and even its Chery cousin, the Omoda E5.

Onboard amenities are more or less the same as the J5, as the E5 gets the same 13.2-inch portrait-oriented infotainment unit as its twin, featuring wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity as standard. Said head unit can be connected to an 8-speaker Sony audio system, which is offered as standard in the top-spec Luxury trim level.
Other key amenities primed here include multi-colour ambient lights, a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel, powered, ventilated, and heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a 540-degree camera view system, and many more.

Despite its compact footprint, the Jaecoo E5 boasts a pretty decent level of practicality. Its boot space measures 480 litres as standard, which can be expanded to 1,180 litres with the rear seats folded down. Due to its FWD setup, however, no frunk space is available in this EV SUV.

As mentioned prior, deliveries for the Jaecoo E5 EV will start later in Oct for the UK market, and each unit will come standard with a seven-year or 100,000-mile (160,000 km approx.) vehicle warranty.
Closer to home, Omoda & Jaecoo Malaysia recently dropped a teaser of the upcoming Jaecoo J5, where the B-SUV will be making its first Malaysian public debut later this month. Could the Jaecoo E5 debut here alongside its petrol twin?
