The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia) have signed the Air Traffic Service Coordination Procedures (ATSCP), a move aimed at boosting aviation safety and efficiency.

The signing took place at the Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre in Sepang, officiated by CAAM CEO Dato’ Captain Norazman Mahmud and MET Malaysia Director General Dr. Mohd Hisham Bin Mohd Anip.

The agreement enables real-time sharing of weather data through an integrated online platform for air traffic controllers. This will allow quicker response to severe weather, better coordination with pilots and more accurate forecasts.

CAAM said the system will help reduce delays, ease congestion, optimise flight paths and cut fuel use thus saving costs for airlines and reducing emissions.

“Meteorological information is the lifeline of safe and smooth aviation operations. In today’s era of global climate change and increasingly unpredictable weather, the need for swift data sharing, clear communication and strong collaboration between CAAM and MET Malaysia is more critical than ever,” said Norazman.

Both agencies said the move strengthens Malaysia’s compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization standards and reinforces the nation’s standing as a leading aviation hub.

They also plan to explore more collaboration opportunities to support the growth of Malaysia’s aviation sector and improve the travel experience for passengers.
