MyKad is the Best Option for RON95 Subsidy, No New Card Required – MoF

Using MyKad to get the RON95 subsidy is the best option, with no new cards required, says the Second Finance Minister.
The use of MyKad to get the RON95 subsidised rate for petrol is the best option instead of creating another system or another card, said Second Finance Minister (MoF) Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
As reported by Malay Mail, the minister said the MyKad was already being used for the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) programme so it is an effective existing system.

“There is no need for a new system or a new card. In fact, using MyKad will instil a sense of pride among Malaysians for their blue identity card,” he said in a press conference at Pulau Betong today.
“Now, Malaysians will learn to appreciate their MyKad and take good care of it because it has its benefits and uses,” he added.
Amir Hamzah also added that the government will also ensure security systems are in place to protect the data in the system.

He further insisted that the Budi95 targeted petrol subsidy programme, which still makes the petrol price in Malaysia among the cheapest in the world, will only benefit Malaysians above 16 years old with licenses. That said, those who are driving foreign-registered vehicles will not be eligible for the subsidy price.
“Even if they used MyKad but their vehicles are registered in Singapore or Thailand, they still cannot use RON95, they are only allowed to use RON97,” he said.

On the topic of the 300-litre monthly limit per person, the minister commented that MoF has conducted studies on this to ensure even those travelling for work, such as those living in Seremban travelling to Putrajaya for work, will still be using below that limit.
“We have studied and found that those who travel for work, such as from Seremban to Kuala Lumpur, they only use up to about 170 litres a month, so the 300 litres limit is sufficient,” he said.
