2026 BYD Atto 3 Gets 308 HP Boost and 800V Architecture

Looks like the BYD Atto 3 is finally evolving into what it was meant to be from the start - a more complete and capable EV crossover. The latest update, revealed through new MIIT filing for a domestic sales license in China, marks a major leap forward in performance and refinement.
The 2026 model is now set to pack 230 kW or 308 hp from the same e-motor used in the Seal EV sedan, giving it a 107 hp boost over the outgoing version. This powertrain upgrade also hints at the adoption of BYD’s 800V architecture, which could enable DC fast charging speeds of up to 150 kW, nearly twice as quick as before.

Dimension wise, nothing has changed. The Atto 3 remains 4,455 mm long, 1,875 mm wide and 1,615 mm tall, with a 2,720 mm wheelbase. However, the SUV now weighs up to 1,880 kg, suggesting the addition of a larger FinDreams battery pack underneath.
Visually, the updated Atto 3 stays close to the facelifted 2025 variant previewed earlier this year, featuring a large trapezoidal intake, smoked headlights, blacked out D pillars and new 18 inch wheels. The familiar silhouette hides what is effectively a more potent and sophisticated EV beneath.

Earlier in the year, BYD also introduced its God’s Eye C or DiSus 100 driving assistance system for the Atto 3, adding 29 sensors including cameras, radars and ultrasonic units to enhance its ADAS capabilities.

When first launched in China in Feb 2022 as the Yuan Plus, the Atto 3 quickly became BYD’s global bestseller, crossing one million sales across 110 countries. But as newer rivals entered the market with faster charging and higher performance, the Atto 3 began to show its age.

This latest version appears to change that. With the Seal EV’s motor under its hood, possible 800V architecture and more refined driver assistance features, the Atto 3 looks ready to reclaim its place as one of the most balanced and desirable electric crossovers in its class.

The big question now is whether BYD Malaysia will introduce this updated model to local buyers in 2026 to revitalise Atto 3 sales, which have been slowing in recent months. It would make perfect sense for BYD to offer the new version as a locally assembled CKD model, especially following its confirmed plans to establish a CKD facility in Tanjung Malim.
With these latest updates, the Atto 3 looks to have addressed nearly all of its earlier shortcomings. If launched here with the same powertrain and technology upgrades, it could once again reclaim its spot as Malaysia’s best selling EV and go head to head with the Proton e.MAS 7.
