Over RM1.3 Million In Fines Issued To 4,634 Singapore Drivers For VEP Violations

Since July 1, more than 4,600 Singapore-registered vehicles have been slapped with fines totaling RM1.39 million for failing to comply with Malaysia’s Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) rules, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) confirmed.

Its deputy director-general Jazmanie Shafawi said a total of 65,039 vehicles were checked at key checkpoints including the Sultan Iskandar Building, Sultan Abu Bakar Complex, the Second Link, and other locations across Johor Bahru. 

Vehicles targeted included those that had not registered for a VEP, had expired permits, or were still under pre-registration.

“Some 159 summonses were issued between Nov 15 and 20 alone to vehicles that had not activated or renewed their VEPs

“Owners of these vehicles will be issued a fine and must settle the summons as well as register their VEP before leaving Malaysia,” he stated.

Drivers without a valid or activated VEP face a RM300 fine, payable at JPJ counters, mobile counters, the VEP registration counter at Danga Bay, or via MyEG.

JPJ also reported that 345,238 radio-frequency identification tags have been issued to date. 

"Of these, 292,692 for private vehicles are active while 16,404 remain inactive. Company-owned vehicles have 28,344 active tags with 7,798 still unactivated," Jazmanie added.

Previously focused on Johor, JPJ confirmed that VEP enforcement will now extend nationwide. This means any Singapore-registered vehicle without a valid VEP anywhere in Malaysia may face action, aiming to ensure stricter compliance and smoother border operations.
