Zeekr X, MG MGS5 EV Earn 5-Star ASEAN NCAP Ratings

Two new electric SUVs have joined the ranks of ASEAN NCAP’s highest-rated models, as both the Zeekr X and MG MGS5 EV achieved full 5-star ratings under the 2021–2025 assessment protocol.
Their results highlight the growing safety standards among new-generation EVs entering regional markets including Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

The Zeekr X topped the charts with an overall score of 94.64 points, while the MG MGS5 EV followed closely with 92.39 points. Both models demonstrated strong performance across all four test domains — Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Safety Assist (SA) and Motorcyclist Safety (MS).
For AOP, the Zeekr X recorded a perfect 32.00 points, with its occupant cell remaining stable during the frontal offset test and offering good protection to both front occupants. The MG MGS5 EV also performed well, scoring 30.32 points, maintaining a stable structure and providing adequate lower leg protection.

Both SUVs are equipped with comprehensive restraint systems including front, side and curtain airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners and load limiters. The Zeekr X adds a driver’s knee airbag and seven airbags in total, while the MGS5 EV includes a centre airbag for the Malaysia and Singapore markets.
In Child Occupant Protection, the Zeekr X achieved 43.70 out of 51 points, narrowly edging the MGS5 EV’s 43.33 points. Both vehicles feature ISOFIX and top tether anchorages as standard, with child restraint systems from Joie, Maxi-Cosi, Britax and Combi passing installation tests without issue. ''

Under Safety Assist, both SUVs achieved the full 21.00 points — a testament to their extensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems. Each is fitted with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Seatbelt Reminders for all occupants, and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with both City and Inter-Urban functionality.
ASEAN NCAP verified that the AEB systems in both models performed effectively during emergency braking scenarios. Additional standard features include Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW), with the Zeekr X also including Rear Seat Occupant Detection.

In the Motorcyclist Safety domain, the Zeekr X and MGS5 EV both scored 14.00 points, credited to their Blind Spot Detection (BSD) systems, pedestrian protection designs and Auto High Beam (AHB) functions.
ASEAN NCAP commended both manufacturers for their proactive integration of safety technologies, describing the Zeekr X’s result as “impressive” and the MGS5 EV’s as “outstanding” under the current assessment cycle.
Manufactured in China for export, the Zeekr X is produced for markets including Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, with prices in Malaysia starting from RM155,800. Meanwhile, the MG MGS5 EV is built in Thailand as a regional model for ASEAN distribution, and retails locally from RM107,900.
