RM3.8 Million Covered Micromobility Lane Set For Shah Alam

Selangor is set to introduce a new covered micromobility lane along Persiaran Sultan in Shah Alam, with the project carrying a price tag of RM3.8mil, report The Star.
The stretch, located in Section 14, will link several major landmarks, including the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building and the state mosque. Designed for cyclists and pedestrians, the lane aims to promote healthier daily commutes and greener travel options.
State investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han said the sheltered pathway would offer protection from rain and sun, making the journey safer and more comfortable. The project is targeted for completion by May 2026.

Ng said the hope is that more government officers working in the surrounding buildings will take advantage of the improved route.
Beyond the main lane, a dedicated walkway will also connect directly to the Dato’ Menteri LRT station. Ng added that this link could serve as a picturesque spot for visitors, offering a clear view of the iconic blue mosque.
He explained that the initiative, undertaken with MBSA, should serve as a model for other local councils in Selangor looking to strengthen their public transport ecosystem. The State Mobility Committee has already instructed all councils to compile an inventory of pedestrian and mobility routes under their care.

Each council has also been asked to propose one major pedestrian walkway project with tangible benefits for users, targeted for rollout in 2026 as the state is finalising its Selangor Mobility Master Plan.
Ng emphasised that local authorities must also tidy up existing walkways, ensuring routes remain clear of obstructions such as signposts and overgrown branches. These improvements, he said, support the state’s goal of achieving a 45% reduction in carbon emissions by 2035.
The blueprint will focus on better “First Mile, Last Mile” connectivity and promote active mobility, supported by enhanced walkways, bicycle paths and micromobility facilities linked seamlessly to bus and rail networks.
