BAuto Quietly Axes Mazda 2 Sedan & Hatch From Local Line-up

It appears that the third-gen Mazda 2 Sedan (left, DL) and hatch (right, DJ) have been discontinued for sale locally by brand custodians Bermaz Auto (BAuto).

Some sombre news for fans of the third-generation Mazda 2 hatch (DJ) and sedan (DL). Thanks to reliable sources in the industry, Carz.com.my understands that Mazda importers and distributors Bermaz Auto (BAuto) have axed the model from its line-up.
A quick check online over at the Japanese marque’s official Malaysian website – operated by BAuto – also reveal that the B-segment sedan and hatch offering has been de-listed too. This perhaps confirms that the model’s discontinued sale here in Malaysia.
Both models were de-listed from the Mazda brand's official Malaysian website, which perhaps confirms its axing.

We say sombre simply because the Mazda 2 is arguably one of the best left-field choices in its class despite also being one of the smallest-sized offerings in segment. Perhaps heightened competition from key Japanese and local rivals have sealed its fate.
We’ll point out that its status as fully imported (CBU) offering made in Thailand, which subsequently led to stiffer pricing versus its peers, didn't help – the last refresh released in Dec 2023 saw the model commanded RM108,670, or RM109,610 in Soul Red Crystal paint.

Heightened competition from rivals like the Toyota Vios and Yaris, as well as the Honda City and City Hatchback duo, have fuelled this. We'll add that said rivals are all locally built (CKD), unlike the Mazda which is fully imported (CBU).

For reference, key Japanese rivals like the Toyota Yaris and Vios, plus the Honda City and City Hatchback duo are all locally assembled (CKD), thus these enjoy competitive pricing with starting figures ranging between RM84,900 and RM90,600.
We’ll even add that the Mazda 2 stands pricier versus the Proton S70 which, though positioned as a larger and higher-specced C-segment offering, currently commands a much lower and more accessible starting price of RM73,800.
We will also point out that the Mazda 2 stood pricier over the Proton S70 which, though positioned as a larger and higher-specced C-segment offering, is tagged more accessibly from RM73,800 onwards.

If you yearn to own a third-gen Mazda 2 in either hatch or sedan forms now, you’d best be hunting for one in the used car market. A quick check online reveal prices for which range between RM27,000 to RM62,000, depending on age and mileage.

Despite its higher CBU pricing and slightly smaller size, the Mazda 2 did feature a more up-market cabin and spec sheet, as well as Mazda's highly lauded Skyactiv powertrain setup - key factors that made it a left-field favourite.

As a refresher, the third-gen Mazda 2 first bowed in in late 2014 before going on sale worldwide in 2015. Sale in Malaysia began that same year, and the model has undergone several minor revisions since, but what remained unchanged was its powertrain.
Shared across both the hatch and sedan is the Mazda brand’s signature Skyactiv powertrain setup consisting of a 1.5-litre -4cyl direct-injected petrol mill paired with a 6-speed automatic box, the former outputting 114 hp and 149 Nm to the front wheels.
