No, that's not the regular version of the Proton e.MAS 7 we're familiar with that just bowed last weekend during the Singapore Motorshow 2026...

Some interesting news from across the Causeway. Over the weekend, the 2026 edition of the annual Singapore Motorshow got underway. Taking centre stage here was national Malaysian automaker Proton and it introduced a special new variant of its e.MAS 7.

At the Singapore Motorshow 2026, Proton e.MAS distributors VINCAR Group and Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd (PICSB) jointly introduced a new variant of the e.MAS 7 tailored especially for the island republic – one with a power output capped at 100 kW (roughly 134 hp).

Tailored especially to meet Singapore COE Category A EV standards is this new variant of the e.MAS 7 with a capped power output of just 100 kW - roughly 134 hp.

As a refresher, many Malaysians are familiar with said Geely-based EV C-SUV in either Prime or Premium variants, both sharing the same powertrain outputting 160 kW (214 hp) and 320 Nm instead. The new variant launched across the causeway was devised specifically to meet COE Category A standards.

In turn, Singaporean buyers opting for this variant not only benefit with a lower purchase price, they are also entitled with a special introductory rebate worth SG$6,000 (approx. RM18,950). The latter perk was offered exclusively to buyers bookings this variant of the e.MAS 7 at the Singapore Motorshow 2026.

Before you ask, Singapore’s COE rulings, even for EVs, are stringent to say the least. Presently, EVs with outputs no greater than 110 kW (roughly 148 hp) are classified under Category A, whereas EVs with outputs greater than which fall under Category B. These are priced at SG$102,009 (RM322,162) and SG$119,100 (RM376,138) respectively.

The Proton e.MAS 7 we're all familiar with in Premium guise packing the larger 60.22 kWh battery pack that promises up to 410 KM of WLTP-rated range.

Apart from which, neither Proton via PICSB or distributors VINCAR Group released any technical specifications. However, we reckon this ‘detuned’ variant of the e.MAS 7 shouldn’t stray too far away in terms of both range and charging abilities touted in the Malaysia-spec version.

For reference, the e.MAS 7 Prime is brimmed with a 49.52 kWh battery pack whilst the e.MAS 7 Premium gets a larger 60.22 kWh pack instead, both promising WLTP-rated ranges of up to 345 KM and 410 KM respectively. Both also accept 11 kW AC charging input as standard, as well as 80 kW (Prime) and 100 kW (Premium) DC fast-charging inputs.

Naturally, we can perhaps expect slightly ‘lesser’ performance instead. Again, for reference, the e.MAS 7 we’re familiar with despatches 0-100 km/h sprints in about 6.9 secs whilst enroute towards a claimed 175 km/h capped V-max. Expect this 100 kW variant for Singapore to be just a tad bit slower here.

Apart from the special e.MAS 7 variant, both Proton (PICSB) and VINCAR Group also confirmed plans to introduce the Proton e.MAS 5 in Singapore sometime later this year.

This new variant’s introduction comes just six months after Proton marked its reentry into the island republic with VINCAR Group. At said point, the e.MAS 7 was launched with a starting price tag of SG$175,899 (RM577,000). Included too was a cross-border 10-year, unlimited mileage battery warranty coverage.

Besides this new variant of the e.MAS 7 tailored specifically for the island republic, both distributors VINCAR Group and PICSB confirmed plans to introduce the smaller Proton e.MAS 7 EV city car in Singapore soon. This is set to occur later this year.
