KLIA T1 Rolls Out Green Lane To Speed Up International Arrivals
Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA T1) has started rolling out a green lane system for international arrivals, aimed at speeding up passenger clearance and easing congestion, particularly around the baggage claim and customs area.
The new setup allows passengers without checked luggage and with nothing to declare to use the green lane and proceed directly to the arrival hall.
A red lane remains in place for travellers carrying goods that need inspection or duty payment, while enforcement officers still retain the authority to stop and inspect passengers when necessary.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the change was introduced after authorities found that the previous single-lane system often caused delays, as all passengers were required to go through the same clearance process regardless of whether they had items to declare.
"The introduction of the green lane does not compromise national security, noting that Border Control and Protection Agency officers can still conduct checks at any time," he stressed.
The initiative is being implemented by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd in collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Customs Department and the Border Control and Protection Agency. expectations of higher tourist arrivals ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026.

The green lane is being tested under a one-month pilot programme until Feb 26. If found to be effective, the system may be extended to KLIA Terminal 2 as well as other international airports, including those in Penang, Johor Bahru, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.
The move does not involve an increase in Customs personnel and is part of broader efforts to improve efficiency and passenger experience at KLIA
