Luxury Cars, Fake Plates: JPJ LPT1 Cracks Down

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) seized six luxury cars worth an estimated RM1.5 million during a special operation on the East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (LPT1) near Karak today.
JPJ Senior Enforcement Director Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said one vehicle was found using a fake registration number, a move likely aimed at evading detection and legal action. “Inspection revealed the registration did not match the vehicle’s actual records, raising suspicion of deliberate deception,” he said.
Further checks showed the car lacked valid road tax and insurance, making it one of the most serious offences uncovered during the operation.

Muhammad Kifli added that the driver’s main motive appeared to be avoiding the Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS) cameras. The fake registration offence is being investigated under Section 108 of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries fines of RM5,000 to RM10,000, alongside other legal actions.
The other luxury vehicles seized were involved in various offences, including driving without a valid licence, road tax, or insurance. Beyond luxury cars, authorities also confiscated 15 other cars, eight high-powered motorcycles, 102 motorcycles under 250cc, as well as a van and a lorry.

The operation, which ran from 6 am to 1 pm, saw a total of 1,203 summonses issued. It involved coordination between JPJ divisions in Pahang, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan, with support from the police and local authorities. A total of 183 personnel focused enforcement on the Gombak to Karak stretch of LPT1.
