Volvo EX30 Recalled Globally – Malaysian Units Included
Own a Volvo EX30? You might want to have it checked soon following a global recall announced by Volvo as it seems some Malaysian units may be affected by which too.

Heads up for Volvo EX30 owners in Malaysia, selected units may be affected by a global recall issued by the Swedish automaker this week. The recall was reportedly prompted from a potential fire risk stemming from the model’s 69 kWh NMC battery pack.
Supplied by Chinese firm Sunwoda Electronic, there have been cases that sees defective cells in said battery pack that can cause overheating when charged to a high level. Worst-case-scenarios could see said overheating situation spark a fire.
However, said cases are rare, with Volvo noting that the number of reported incidents being very small – just 0.02% of identified affected units. The automaker adds that there have been no casualties – neither injuries or death – reported from which too.
The recall was prompted by a fire risk stemming from a possibly defective cell in the 69 kWh NMC battery pack primed in the EX30.
Owners are advised not to charge beyond 70%, and they can set limits for which in their infotainment screens.

Locally, Carz.com.my understands that Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) are aware of the matter and will issue recall notices to affected owners soon. Until then, EX30 owners are advised to avoid charging beyond 70%, and that they can set this limit via the infotainment touchscreen.
Given which, existing owners of the EX30 should have little to worry about should they follow said advise. We’ll also add that all EX30 units officially sold in Malaysia come with an 8-year or 160,000 KM warranty that specifically covers the battery pack mentioned.

We'll also point out that the Sunwoda Electrical-supplied 69 kWh NMC battery pack is also brimmed in the smart #1 and #3, as well as the Zeekr X - all sharing the same Geely SEA2 base as the EX30. Said trio, however, remain unaffected for now.

As a refresher, VCM initially launched the EX30 locally back in Sept 2024 as a fully imported (CBU) offering with three variants on offer. A locally assembled (CKD) version with just two variants then followed up from which in Jan 2025.
Apart from the EX30, Sunwoda Electrical also supplies identical battery packs for the smart #1 and #3, as well as the Zeekr X – all three sharing the same SEA2 platform base developed by parent company Geely. It’s unclear still if these trio are affected too.
