KLIA Aerotrain Performance Stabilising

Independent experts have confirmed that the KLIA Aerotrain is running as expected, with the occasional disruptions since it began operating seen as normal for a new, complex rail system.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said the assessments found no safety concerns. The company added that engineering safeguards and continuous monitoring are already in place to manage any operational hiccups.
Since launching its Comprehensive Action Plan (CAP) on Nov 15, 2025, Aerotrain performance has improved steadily. Dec figures showed 100% Operational Service Availability, up from 98.67% in July, demonstrating strong reliability even while inspections and tests were ongoing.
The review highlighted two key areas affecting train performance: the power supply system and the rolling stock.

For the power system, assessors found that the design and protective measures are generally sound. They suggested continued focus on installation quality, monitoring the power rails, and clarifying operational responsibilities to maintain long-term reliability.
The rolling stock review focused on the current collector device, which ensures the train receives continuous power from the rails. Its proper functioning is critical for stable, uninterrupted service.
MAHB said the CAP has involved thorough inspections, rectification work, testing, validation, and trial runs. Most of these works have been completed, with only a few remaining tasks left to close out.

Originally, engineering work was scheduled from 9pm to 7am, but hours were shortened to 11pm–7am to reduce impact on holiday and festive travel periods.
The airport operator added that CAP measures will continue in a careful, coordinated manner, with ongoing monitoring and independent oversight to maintain reliable Aerotrain operations.
MAHB also noted that Alstom and IJMC-PESTECH, two independent assessors reviewing the train’s design, installation, and maintenance, are expected to submit their full reports by mid-Jan 2026.
