KPDN Plans Tighter Controls on RON95 Misuse
-full_normal.jpg)
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is reviewing several legislative amendments aimed at tightening controls over the misuse of subsidised RON95 petrol, including action against individuals who illegally fill up fuel using another person’s identity or through fraudulent means, reported Bernama.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said enforcement efforts currently place greater responsibility on licence holders and operators of controlled goods premises, but acknowledged the need to close existing loopholes that allow abuse to occur.

He said proposed improvements to the law would address manipulation tactics such as the use of fake vehicle registration numbers or other methods used to mislead petrol station operators, while ensuring enforcement expectations remain practical.
Armizan added that the ministry is also studying mechanisms to restrict the use of foreign-issued credit cards for RON95 purchases, ensuring the subsidy is enjoyed only by eligible Malaysians.
He stressed that petrol station operators should not be burdened with responsibilities beyond their operational capacity, such as verifying detailed technical information of vehicles. RON95 is a subsidised fuel meant strictly for Malaysians through locally registered vehicles under the targeted subsidy policy.
