Fuel Price Shock: Diesel Spikes to RM5.52, Unsubsidised RON95 Jumps 60 Sen

On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, and the Ministry of Finance has released the 14th fuel price update of the year. While the "Safety Net" of the Budi Madani and BUDI95 schemes remains in place for eligible Malaysians, those relying on market prices are facing a brutal "Price Cliff" starting last midnight.

Following the latest adjustment, the retail price of Euro 5 B10 and B20 diesel in Peninsular Malaysia climbs to RM5.52 per litre, a staggering 80-sen increase from last week. Meanwhile, unsubsidised RON95 has jumped 60 sen, bringing the market rate to RM3.87 per litre.

The "Price Cliff": Why the Sudden Surge?

The 80-sen and 60-sen hikes are a direct reflection of extreme volatility in the global oil market. With Middle East tensions driving Brent crude toward the US$115–$120 per barrel range, the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) is now reflecting these high international costs at local pumps.

For Peninsular diesel users, the price has now surged nearly 17% in a single week. This is the highest weekly increase we've seen since the targeted subsidy rollout began.

The Safety Net: Budi Madani to the Rescue?

While the market prices are soaring, the government’s targeted subsidy schemes are working overtime to shield the Rakyat:

  • BUDI95: The subsidised RON95 remains at RM1.99 per litre for those with a valid driving license, capped at a 300-litre monthly quota.
  • Diesel Cash Aid: To offset the RM5.52 price point, the Budi Madani monthly cash assistance was recently increased by RM100 (now totaling RM300 monthly), a move that took effect on March 17.
  • East Malaysia: Prices in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan remain frozen at RM2.15 per litre, highlighting the continued regional subsidy buffer for East Malaysian logistics.

The "Power User" Warning

If you are a high-mileage driver or use a non-subsidised vehicle for business, this 60-sen jump in RON95 means a full 50-litre tank will now cost you RM30.00 more than it did last week. For diesel fleet owners in the Peninsular not covered by the fleet card system, a 100-litre fill-up now costs an extra RM80.00.
